Olcay Kursun received his BS and MS degrees in Computer Engineering from Bogazici University, Istanbul, Turkey, in 1998 and 2000, respectively. He received his PhD degree in 2004 in Computer Science from the University of Central Florida on cortex-inspired neural networks. From 2009 to 2016, he worked for Istanbul University. In 2016, he joined his long-term collaborators' neuroscience lab in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he continued their work on machine learning and computational neuroscience. From 2017 to 2021, he worked at the University of Central Arkansas. Currently, he is a professor in the Department of Computer Science at Auburn University at Montgomery in Alabama. His research interest is in deep learning and its applications in neuroscience, biomedical engineering, embedded systems, and cybersecurity.
