We developed a wearable antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) device that can sterilize multidrug-resistant (MDR) wound infections safely and effectively at the point of care. This aPDT platform was developed by leveraging advanced optical device fabrication techniques and evaluated by a combination of in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo bacterial wound infection models. Throughout all the wound infection models, this aPDT platform is capable to inactivate at least 90% of MDR pathogens in the wound infections, showing potential to generalize the application of aPDT in the clinic for MDR infection prevention and treatment for chronic wounds.
