Copyright, Web Posting, and Reprint Policies
What are my rights as an author for reproducing my own SPIE material?
How can I request permission to reprint images or content?
If you are seeking permission to use previously published material from SPIE publications, please submit your request via Copyright Clearance Center's Marketplace, an automated permission-granting service. It can often be the most convenient and efficient way to request permissions.
To begin your permission request, please sign in or create an individual account. If you are facing issues with your account, please contact customercare@copyright.com for assistance.
For any further clarifications, you can submit your query to reprint_permission@spie.org.
For details about publication licenses and the associated author rights to share published articles, see the SPIE policies on article-sharing.
An author of a cited paper retains co-owner rights to the original content therein. Publisher's permission for reprint is thereby granted under the following conditions: (1) the material to be used has appeared in our publication without credit or acknowledgment to another source; and (2) the reprint credits the original SPIE publication, including the authors' names, title of paper, SPIE volume title and volume number, and year of publication.
What are SPIE's Terms of Use?
Purchasers and users of SPIE Proceedings, Journals, and eBooks may download, save, or print purchased or freely available content to any device owned by the user solely for private use or research. Altering, posting on a public website, re-transmitting to others, systematic downloading, loading on an internal network, reselling, or republishing SPIE-copyrighted content in any form or medium without written permission from SPIE is a violation of copyright laws and is prohibited. Brief quotations or excerpts may be used in other articles, reviews, blogs, bibliographies, etc., provided they are properly cited. By electing to download, save, print, or copy any content from SPIE Publications, the User agrees to use it in a way that conforms to all applicable laws and regulations, and to these Terms of Use.
