We experimentally demonstrate the dominating nonlinear saturable absorption contributed by conduction band electrons in epsilon-near-zero (ENZ) transparent conducting oxide (TCO) thin film when the plasmon-polariton mode near the ENZ regime is excited (ENZ mode). Using our engineered TCO indium tin oxide (ITO) thin film that allows three-photon absorption near the ENZ regime, we study the nonlinear absorption dynamics with z-scan nonlinearity measurement technique. We observed the competing behavior between the electrons in the valance and conduction bands at a fixed pulse intensity and various angles of incident. Our results are significant for advancing efficient all-optically tunable devices.
