In this research, we studied solution-processed non-polymeric organic photodiodes by using the strategy of thick bulk heterojunction (BHJ) and inserting a hole blocking layer to reduce the dark current density. In this system, a high external quantum efficiency (over 70% at -0.5 V), extremely low dark current (0.11 nA/cm2 at -0.5 V), and high responsivity (0.4 A/W), detectivity (9.2 x 1012 Jones), linear dynamic range (140 dB) and frequency response (4.0 MHz) were achieved. This study represents a significant step forward to get a low-cost and high-performance OPDs in a very simple process step.
