Abstract
A highly bright reflective dichroic display with high contrast and wide viewing angle has been developed. The cell uses a specially formulated black dye mixture with high order parameter in visible range and exhibits >12:1 contrast ratio with > 50% brightness in white light condition. The device consists of a dichroic liquid crystal shutter in conjunction with quarter wave plate and a metallic reflector. It operates at low (approx. 7.5 V) voltage and exhibits no hysteresis.
