Abstract
As is generally known, holographic gratings permit the construction of monochromators with only one optically effective element. Compared with the Seya-Namioka arrangement, our hologram pattern provides us with better means for aberration correction. The correction of aberrations is described. It is proven that the tangential focal curve passes through the exit slit at max. four wavelengths in the spectrum. This property of the tangential focal curve is used for a non-linear Chebyshev approximation. Methods and the pertaining correction parameters are given for the correction of astigmatism and coma. For concave spherical gratings, a classification into two monochromator classes is performed according to the correction parameters used. The results of the optimization are represented in the form of spot diagrams and inten-sity distribution curves. The spectral transmittance as a function of efficiency, aperture, resolution, magnification and astigmatism is discussed.
