Abstract
In this article, the variation of polarization of the reflected wave with the direction of the optical axis in an isotropic medium-uniaxial crystal interface is analyzed. This analysis shows that in this kind of interface certain particular situations take plane, e.g. the linear polarization in the region of total reflection and the circular polarization when there is only one reflection. Analytical expressions of the conditions for light to be linearly polarized are obtained for the case in which the optical axis is contained in the interface. A comparative study with the case in which the optical axis is along the incidence plane is included.
