Abstract

Polarimetric remote sensing dates back to the early 1900s, when French astronomers Lyot and Dollfus used it in astronomical observations of the planets. They realized that with its unique properties, polarization could accomplish what photometry alone could not, as well as supplementing photometric observations of the planets.
