Abstract
Point clouds have played an important role in power transmission inspection. However, the huge data volume hinders the popularization and application of the technology. In this paper, the segmentation and visualization of point cloud data associated with power transmission lines have been addressed through an innovative approach, characterized by the integration of octree-based spatial partitioning and dynamic resampling. Initiated with the construction of an octree hierarchy, the point cloud data undergo segmentation, while a top-down strategy is concurrently enacted for the purpose of dynamic resampling, optimizing the efficiency of octree index construction. This is followed by the deployment of the octree index to selectively load point cloud data specific to individual transmission towers, culminating in a lightweight representation of the transmission line point clouds. The results derived from the research underscore the capability of the proposed methodology to substantially expedite the loading speed of transmission line point clouds, thereby offering a robust framework for the optimization of flight route planning during autonomous inspections of transmission lines.
