Abstract

In view of the shortcomings of small object feature information, low detection rate, and high error and missed detection rates in object detection tasks. This paper proposes an improved Single Shot Multibox Detector (SSD) algorithm—SSDRes50- AF for small object detection. First, the ResNet50 residual network is used as the backbone network of the SSD algorithm to enhance the feature extraction capability of the SSD algorithm. Secondly, a lightweight and efficient feature fusion module is added before the prediction feature layer to improve the multi-scale feature fusion capability of the SSD algorithm. Localize small objects more accurately. Finally, an attention mechanism is added and applied to the medium-scale feature map of the network to enhance the effective information in the feature map. Experiments on the PASCAL VOC 2007 data set show that this algorithm effectively improves the accuracy of small object recognition, improves the situation of missed detection and greatly improves the detection accuracy and robustness of the algorithm.
