Abstract
Alfalfa is known as the "King of Pastures". Only by choosing a suitable planting area can the local climate resources be fully utilized, which is particularly important for large-scale and centralized production. In this research, 443 point records of actual distribution of alfalfa in China and 19 environmental factor variables were selected, based on Maxent model and Arcgis software to simulate the potential distribution of alfalfa nationwide. The results show that the Maxent model has an Area under the Roc Curve(AUC) is 0.821, which is "very accurate". The main factor affecting the growth of alfalfa is temperature. The area suitable for alfalfa growth is 236,000 square kilometers, and the area sub-suitable for alfalfa growth is 584,000 square kilometers. The climatic conditions for growing alfalfa in China have great potential.
