21 June 2019 Design and aberration analysis of several AR optical architectures working with different sources of image

Abstract
Augmented reality (AR) systems have many different applications from consumer electronics devices to military devices. Head-mounted displays have been extensively investigated during the last years. Modern technologies make it possible to manufacture more and more complex devices, and the symbol generators used in such systems continue to improve. FLCOS, AMOLED, and other microdisplays are usually used as a source of image in such type of the systems. Seethrough augmented reality systems can also work with a smartphone. Devices with ever greater resolution and smaller size appear on the market providing small response time and high brightness. While designing the optical architecture for HMD, one usually considers how it works with certain source of image. We have considered several AR optical architectures with flat and curved mirrors as a combiner, and how they work with sources of different type, size, resolution, etc. Thus, the object of the research is to design several optical schemes for augmented reality see-through head-mounted displays working with different sources of image.
